DESCRIPTION AND COMMENTS Illusions stars Jan Rouven, the latest challenger in the Las Vegas pantheon of magicians and illusionists. Graduated from the tiny showroom at the Clarion to the Starlite Theater at the Riviera, Rouven finally has a venue where he can realize the full potential of his craft. Rouven is young, speaks with an amusing German accent, and has a penchant for comical facial expressions. His illusions are little different from those in similar productions, though Rouven tends to perform them with unexpected creative twists. He’s supported by several comely assistants and five dancers, the latter’s primary role apparently is to keep things moving while the next illusion is being set up. A pounding music track drives the pace of the presentation.

CONSUMER TIPS We think Rouven has the skills and stage presence to eclipse the roster of gimmick-dependent illusionists in Las Vegas. He won’t unseat David Copperfield any time soon, but the rest should keep an eye on him. He has a real breakout opportunity with his Starlite Theatre gig. Stay tuned.
